QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A western Illinois man was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to his fifth charge of driving under the influence.
The Quincy Herald-Whig (http://bit.ly/12qF2xx) reports 56-year-old Scott Espe of Quincy was sentenced Wednesday in Adams County on a charge of aggravated DUI.
Authorities say Espe was arrested after a Quincy police officer stopped him while he was driving in rain without headlights in use. Espe’s blood-alcohol level was more than three times the state’s legal threshold for intoxication.
Espe told the judge during sentencing that all of his DUIs involved high blood-alcohol levels and were “dumb.” He says he thankfully never hurt anyone “in all of my years of driving drunk.”
