7/3/2013 11:29:00 AM Carrier plans 'hiatus' of flights out of Mascoutah
MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) — A commercial passenger service says it’s pulling back on its service between a struggling southwestern Illinois airport and Florida, citing a season lull in traffic.
A spokeswoman for Las Vegas-based Allegiant tells the Belleville News-Democrat ( that nonstop, twice-weekly service out of MidAmerica St. Louis Airport near Mascoutah (muh-SKOO’-tuh) to Orlando, Fla. will be taking a “hiatus” for seven weeks after Aug. 11.
Jessica Wheeler says the move is due to a slowdown in demand for that route into Orlando. She says the uncertain number of passengers makes it difficult to ensure the low fares for which the airline is known.
The round-trip flights to Orlando are the only passenger service operating out of MidAmerica.
