7/6/2013 2:46:00 PM Teen rescued after 13 hrs. in ravine
HEYWORTH, Ill. (AP) — Emergency crews have rescued a 17-year-old central Illinois girl who apparently tripped and fell into a ravine after watching a fireworks show.
McLean County Emergency Management Agency Director Curt Hawk says 17-year-old Brooke Bartelmay was found Friday afternoon north of a park in Heyworth. Hawk says the girl watched the village fireworks show on Thursday night and then took a walk along trails. Authorities believe she became disoriented and fell into a ravine.
The teen was reported missing about 1 a.m. on Friday. About 100 law enforcement searched for her until she was found about 13 hours later.
Police say the girl was responsive and had no obvious injuries.
