DECATUR, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois State Police plans to inspect over 300 buses and other commercial motor vehicles at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur.
The Passenger Carrier Strike Force supports the police department’s mission of traffic safety by “keeping mechanically unsafe buses off the roadways.”
Major Brad Carnduff is commander of state police operational services. He says crashes involving commercial vehicles such as buses “affect many lives at once.”
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation collaborate on road and traffic safety programs to raise public awareness and prevent crashes with police cooperation.
State Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider says the inspections are vital to preventing accidents.
The Farm Progress Show began Tuesday.
