CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois authorities are monitoring swollen rivers and creeks after weekend storms dumped rain in the area.
The National Weather Service says a flood warning on the Big Muddy River near Plumfield and Murphysboro is in place until Christmas Day. Similar warnings are in effect along the Ohio River and other smaller bodies of water.
During the weekend, some parts of the region between Danville, Ill. and Angola, Ind. received anywhere from two to seven inches of rain.
Franklin County officials had to close some roads because of flooding
Harrisburg resident Mike Sullivan said that his entire backyard is submerged in standing water. He says he’s “watching it and hoping and praying for the best.”
