4/30/2014 11:50:00 AM Law Day: Nearly 700 new attorneys to be admitted to the Illinois bar Thursday
SPRINGFIELD — Justices of the Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Appellate Court will administer the attorney’s oath to 691 new attorneys at five separate locations on Thursday, May 1.
All of the candidates have passed the Illinois state bar examination, an ethics examination, and have been certified by the Committee on Character and Fitness.
The largest group, 474, will be admitted in the First Judicial District during ceremonies Thursday in the James R. Thompson Center Assembly Hall in Chicago. Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita B. Garman will preside over the Fourth Judicial District ceremony, 10 a.m., Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 South Sixth Street, Springfield.
Supreme Court Justice Robert R. Thomas will preside over the Second Judicial District ceremony, 10 a.m., Hemmens Memorial Building in the Elgin Civic Center Plaza, 150
Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride will preside over the Third Judicial District ceremony, 11 a.m., Third Judicial District Appellate Courthouse, 1004 Columbus Street, Ottawa.
Supreme Court Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier will preside over the Fifth Judicial District ceremony, 2 p.m., Gateway Convention Center, Once Gateway Drive, Collinsville.
The new attorneys will bring the total number of registered and licensed attorneys in Illinois to 93,247.
