CHICAGO (AP) — A 50-year-old Chicago man who prosecutors say committed 20 armed robberies over five months has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.
The U.S. attorney’s office says Carlos Ochoa pleaded guilty in September to interstate robbery and to using a firearm during a violent crime. A federal judge in Chicago sentenced him on Friday.
In the Chicago-area robbery spree in 2010, prosecutors say Ochoa sometimes netted less than $25. Three of his victims spoke at the hearing. They told the federal judge that they experienced long-lasting trauma as a result of the robberies.
A co-defendant of Ochoa’s died of natural causes in 2012 after he was indicted.
