CHICAGO (AP) — Firefighters have rescued three people who were trapped for several hours in an elevator that was stuck at a hotel in Chicago.
The three people were residents of the Gold Coast building, which houses condominiums on its upper floors as well as the Ritz-Carlton hotel.
The elevator stalled Friday evening in a blind shaft, an area with no openings between the ground floor and its first stop, on the 33rd floor.
Firefighters rescued two of the people after about three hours. The third person is an elderly woman, and firefighters waited to rescue her until the elevator could be moved to a floor where they could open the doors.
