HILLSBORO, Ill. — Eisentraut Theatres and TASC/The Autism Support Connection have joined together to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities "Sensory Friendly Films."
The movie event for July will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. July 8 at the Orpheum Theatre in Hillsboro. This month's feature will be the newly released "Despicable Me 3."
With Sensory Friendly Films, the movie theatre lights are left up and the sound is turned down. Audience members are welcome to move about and dance, walk, shout or sing. The usual "silence policy" is not enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.
These Sensory Friendly movie events are open to all families who have a loved one with special needs and are unable to attend a regular viewing due to sensory issues. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
TASC will again cover the cost of admission for this movie event. Families are allowed to bring in their own gluten free, casein free snacks.
The groupwill hold its regular monthly support group meeting on the first Thursday for the month of July, but will be hosting a free swim party on Saturday, July 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Central Park Pool in Hillsboro.
This event is open to all families that are affected by Autism and other related disorders or special needs. Swimming is a fun and therapeutic activity where every member of the family can participate in a welcoming and safe environment. Life guards will be on duty and the concession stand will be open. Families may also bring their own snacks. All kids must be accompanied by an adult.
Due to the Old Settlers Celebration in Hillsboro their next monthly support group meeting will be held on August 10 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
