7/8/2017 1:15:00 PM ISP District 09 announces saturation patrols in high crash locations
SPRINGFIELD — Illinois State Police District 09 Commander, Chris Owen, announced today a saturation patrol detail focusing on high personal injury and fatal crash locations.
On July 10 and 11, Illinois State Police District 9 will utilize Motorcycle Officers as well as patrol cars to aggressively enforce fatal four violations in areas identified as high personal injury and fatal crash areas. Fatal Four violations contribute to the majority of fatal traffic crashes and include Speeding, DUI, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt and Distracted Driving. Officers will focus their efforts in these locations to reduce the likelihood of further crashes.
While conducting these saturation patrols, Troopers will also be on the lookout of those actively engaging in criminal activi ties. Those that are found to be transporting contraband or involved in other crimes will be arrested and removed from the streets.
The purpose of this detail is to increase visibility of the Illinois State Police in high personal injury crash sites, gain voluntary compliance form the motoring public and arrest any criminals who attempt to conduct illegal activities within District 9. Additionally, District 9 wants to educate the motoring public as to the areas in this district which have statistically proven to be high personal injury crash sites. With this information, motorists can adjust their driving habits and in turn make the roadways safer for everyone.
