St. Mary School Unveils Plans For New Addition
Ground breaking expected this spring

TAYLORVILLE — “In about 2011, one of the teachers came in holding a part of the window that had fallen off and landed next to her car. It was just a little trim piece, but it kind of initiated the conversation about this building and the fact that it is 95-plus years old,” said Cathy Robertson, Principal at St. Mary School. “It’s a great building, and if it were anything but a school, I would be all for restoring it. However, in this case, it’s just not feasible.  We found out that when you put 50 percent of the value into a renovation, it’s considered a new build, and then all of the current building codes kick in. That was kind of the determining factor in our decision to pursue a new facility instead of renovating this one.”
