On Friday, October 17, 2014, the Breeze published a column of mine calling attention to a new group of scams that were appearing around the country. The Better Business Bureau published the facts initially. The BBB reported that these fraudsters were campaigning to get money, chiefly from local seniors. The vehicle used was to offer “free” medical devices.

A personal account: What this day meant to us
TAYLORVILLE — The announcement of World TB Day happening Tuesday brings the same memories and thoughts I’ve had for years on that subject.  Sylvia and I met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve, 1952.  She  came in from Detroit because the family in Cleveland arranged it as a help to one of their number who had lost his wife some months earlier but who had a very difficult time starting his life again.  The members arranged the evening, at a new nightclub, The Cucamonga Club.  It was featuring a band of Al Serifini, a man who actually worked with me at a B.F. Goodrich store.

Governor proclaims today World TB Day
SPRINGFIELD — Governor Bruce Rauner has issued a proclamation declaring that Illinois will observe World TB Day, on March 24, 2015.  The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) observes this day annually to encourage Illinoisans to learn about TB and to help stop the spread of the disease. Illinois ranks sixth in the nation for the highest number of TB cases.
