Ethel Grace Marie Funk, 91, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born September 28, 1921 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Seedan) Gross. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother. She was previously employed as a receptionist with St. Mary’s Hospital, a school bus driver, an assembler with Borg-Warner, and caretaker of the Oglesby Mansion. She was an active member with St. John’s Lutheran Church where she helped with the nativity and prepared meals. She was an excellent cook and very community oriented. She prepared meals for the monthly Lions Club and American Legion dinners in Mt. Auburn. She was always willing to lend a hand. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and canning. She married Deane E. Funk January 20, 1943. He preceded her in death April 8, 1990.
She leaves behind her sons, Gary and wife Nancy Sue of Decatur, Ronald and wife Edana of Riverton, Roger and wife Evon of Cerro Gordo, and Mark and wife Kim of Blue Mound; daughters, Sharon Brown and husband Greg of Chatham and Sheri Ann Lausmann of Decatur; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, daughter Shirley Funk, grandson Jess Levendoski, and sixteen siblings.
Services to celebrate Ethel’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Funks Grove Cemetery in Funks Grove, IL.
