|Members of the Christian County Board’s Highway, Buildings and Grounds Committee discussed what options are available after the recently failed referendum for a 1% Safety Sales Tax increase to pay for a new jail and sheriff’s office at its meeting on Tuesday night in the Courthouse in Taylorville. Engineer Bill Kennedy said the problem is not going to go away anytime soon and a plan of action was needed.|
Kennedy felt one of the reasons it failed was because there was no plan for the public to see before the vote.
“Tax increases are never popular, but the thing was done with no plan and a request for money in perpetuity, which doesn’t make sense” Kennedy said. “We have to figure out what will fix the problem we have and how much money we will get into initially before we do anything else to the facility.”
