The Christian County Board recognized a group of Pana High School students who took home first place in a national solar car competition and District 2 board member Chad Michel, rural Edinburg, who resigned from the board effective Tuesday night, during their regular monthly meeting in the Courthouse.

Michel, who was re-elected in 2018, has served on the board since 2006. He cited personal reasons for his decision to resign. A plaque was presented to Michel from Board Chairman Becky Edwards to commemorate his years of service. Edwards commented on his dedication and service to the board. It was followed by a standing ovation from the other board members and those in the audience.

The seat will have to be filled by an appointment by the chairman and approved by the board. That person will serve until the 2020 General Election in November, when someone will be elected to fill the remaining two-year term of Michel.
