Letter to the Editor
Another loss suffered by the Greatest Generation

Frances Sutton passed away on March 20, 2020. She was 101. She was also my godmother.

Frances is the last familial connection that I had with the Greatest Generation. My mother, Othelle (Tella) Giovagnoli Edwards, and father, Phillip Edwards, along with their siblings passed away many years ago leaving only Frances as a connection with the group of people that persevered during one of the most trying times in our country’s history. Given our current circumstances, I think we could use some of their wisdom and guidance as we face another trying time.

Being confined to home when you're a gadabout like us can be tough. As a result of the covid-19 outbreak you, like us, may be going stir crazy. Remember when we didn't have cell phones possessing our souls every minute, television news was 30 minutes an evening, we visited with our neighbors and friends in person, played games and interacted with family.

It is time again for the Abraham Lincoln Councils Annual Scouting for Food Drive. This past Saturday scouts were out putting bags on homes in town for donations. The scouts will be coming around this Saturday to pick up the bags and take them to the food pantry.

Who is the driving force behind the Green wave sweeping the world, the United States, and now, Christian County via the wind farms controversy; one that champions replacing economical and proven energy sources with expensive “alternative energy” (wind and solar)?

I applaud the recent letter to the editor submitted by Mr. Merker in regard to the BDD. For clarification purposes I would like people to know that four aldermen on the council voted NO to the decision to purchase the emergency generator for City Hall, myself being one of those.

Dear Editor,

For two years I was the Program Director for Taylorville Main Street, the predecessor of Downtown Taylorville, the current downtown business group. For seven years prior to that I was a volunteer in the Main Street organization. Main Street’s focus was historic building preservation. Successful preservation requires a stable funding stream to pay for the myriad of projects required to preserve physical structures.

Tranquility base, the Eagle has landed! Famous words from Neil Armstrong on the moon back in 1969.

We could say in 2020, "Taylorville base, the eagles have landed!' It seems everyone you talk with, this year, has seen/taken a photo of an eagle on their travels around Christian county and south central Illinois.

I was thumbing through Facebook this afternoon, and found another assault on our freedoms. There was a posting that had been copied from the Illinois General Assembly web site. It's HB4704, the RIGHT TO GARDEN ACT. It has five sponsors. The web site suggested it was going to be heard in committee, today, Tuesday Feb 25th.

Kudos to Mrs Schaeffer and the students at St Mary's. How good is it that they are learning at such an early age what compassion means.

llinois residents are sure to see the snow melt, ice thaw and severe storms roll through the state in the coming weeks. As a result, portions of Illinois may experience overflowing waterways, compromised dams and levees or excess surface water runoff. Flooding is a serious threat to properties located in these areas. Floods are destructive, economically devastating and all too common.

Trump Heroin Trump is like heroin to his base. Every time he espouses hate, bigotry, misogyny, vicious outrageous lies, denigrating enemies, real or perceived, its like a fix to his cult members. "Right On! " You Tell Em Donald!"

In response to Proponents see advantages –

The moratorium was asked so both sides could gather facts of the wind turbines as well as the county board so a more informed decision could be made considering setbacks and standards for installing wind turbines.

Protect Christian County LLC has requested that the Christian County Board suspend all wind farm activity in the county for 6 months. This will allow time to conduct due diligence on proper wind farm ordinances and to amend the counties current ordinance adopted in 2008.

Let's Get the House in Order First. Would you buy a house without a house inspection? Probably not.

What was Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton thinking when she purchased recreational marijuana in Chicago on the first day of its legal sales in Illinois? Does she not understand that as a public official she is setting a reckless and foolish example, especially for children and teens?
