Letter to the Editor
Last election, the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce hosted a candidate forum. It served as an important opportunity for voters to hear from local candidates on issues facing our communities and our state.  This forum was neutral, well-respected, well-attended, and aired on the radio.

Letter to the Editor
On behalf of the Taylorville Ministerial Association (TMA) I would again like to thank the greater Taylorville community and especially the hundreds of ordinary women, men and children who either donated or helped to staff kettle locations for the Salvation Army “Red Kettle” collections this past holiday season. We are extremely excited to announce that we plan to undertake another campaign this upcoming holiday shopping season!

I have read some of the negative comments concerning Taylorville Mayor Bruce Barry, but I for one applaud him for what he has accomplished in 16 months:

In January, MaryAnn Becker, Office Administrator for the Taylorville Park District was contacted with a request that TSD be put on the monthly meeting agenda. The purpose was to discuss an upcoming sewer project. It was stated that Jeff Large (Taylorville native) with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly would attend to explain the project. A tax on the number of miles a person drives is a terrible idea for rural and downstate residents of Illinois.

Letter to the Editor
I am happy to respond to the letter written by Gayle McRoberts, Retired Principal of the Pana High School. I served on the Taylorville School Board from April 2009 until April of 2017. During that time, I had the privilege to work with other board members to solve deep financial problems that our district faced. Before I address specific issues that were in the above letter, I would like to remind everyone of how the district came to be in a financial crisis that forced the very decisions we had to make.

Letter to the Editor
Taylorville just bid a fond but difficult farewell to another fine citizen, Kevin Stich. I came to know Kevin well during the 16 plus years that I served under Kevin as secretary of the Taylorville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

I've had a number of questions abut the white sort of fuzzy stuff that people have been finding on the leaves of their lilac's and other garden plants and lawns.

Letter to the Editor
I respectfully submit this letter regarding the recent 4-3 school board vote in favor of transitioning from a centers model to a K-4 model. As a former Jr.-Sr. High School educator, elementary administrator, college instructor, and current substitute teacher, it goes without saying that the recent school board decision in favor of pursing a K-4 school model has garnered my attention.

Allow me to borrow a line from the Ray Stevens song, “The Streak”: “Don’t look Ethel!” The camouflage clothing has fallen away. There stands the Democrat party, naked as a molting Jay bird sittin’ on a  wire in a Montana snowstorm, exposing its draconian Socialist/Communist agenda.

Info from an Alliance for Retired Americans member: A bill called the "Social Security Expansion Act" (S.427/ H.R. 1114) has been introduced in Congress, and it will do several very good things and most importantly: 1. Increase your Social Security payments by about $800 per year. 2. Improve your annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) by using a benefit calculation that takes into consideration the cost of goods and services typically used by older Americans, immediately helping you meet your daily needs. 3. Guarantee your benefits for as long as you need them by ensuring that the Social Security Trust Fund remains solvent for years to come.
