Letter to the Editor
Over the past many weeks, I have had multiple conversations with friends and colleagues about the election and its results. I am disheartened by the shear amount of misinformation out in the media now of the allegations being made, and whether there is any evidence of voter fraud being knowingly and purposefully committed. And we all agree that in every election there will be some amount of voter fraud. That said, there are a few key issues with the case of voter fraud that I do not doubt will not sit well with several readers, but it is important for those readers to see this.

Deer-vehicle crashes are more frequent this time of year. The Illinois Insurance Association and its member companies encourage motorists to be alert, focused, and ready to react to deer on roadways in the coming weeks. Tips to avoid deer-related incidents: .. Slow down around timber, field edges, watering holes, and other areas where deer gather.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to remember all those who are spending the holiday on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19: not only doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, but all the other essential workers who protect and care for our communities. On behalf of Memorial Health System, I would like to express my gratitude to these workers and their families. This year, their hard work and dedication mean more than ever.

Unfortunately, the Republican Party seems to have lost its legitimacy. By refusing to accept the results of the election by lying and making up stories of non existent wide spread fraud and creating false doubts they are seriously damaging faith in the American electoral process.

I must admit, I was surprised to read that the VFW will be hosting a Veteran’s Day lunch this year. Traditionally, the VFW has hosted the Memorial Day celebration and the American Legion the Veteran’s Day celebration.

Illinois voters will decide on November 3 if the state constitution should be amended to repeal the current flat tax rate, which taxes all residents at the same percentage, and instead allow the legislature to use different tax rates on different individuals, based on their income levels. Making changes in the state constitution is a very serious matter, and hasn't happened since 1980. All voters should study the issue and cast their vote on November 3rd.

Bruce (one man, one vote) Dawson’s letters give one the sense that he is an ideological clone of Hillary Clinton and Karl Marx.

Was this country a “nation of uneducated farmers” during the Founding Era as Mr. Dawson stubbornly maintains?

The movement for universal education began in New England in 1647. Massachusetts required communities of 50 families or house-holders to establish a free grammar school to teach the fundamentals: Writing, ciphering, history, geography, and Bible studies, while townships of 100 families or more established a secondary school in advanced studies to prepare students for Harvard.

A news release was sent out Friday from Senator Andy Manar’s office officially announcing the designation of the Christian County Enterprise Zone. I want to thank Senator Manar for his efforts in assisting the City of Taylorville and Christian County becoming successful in his support of the zone.

October is RESPECT FOR LIFE month. If we are truly PRO LIFERS we must demonstrate respect for all lives in our words and actions. This respect must be extended not just to the unborn but beyond. All lives do matter. If you are a parent of more than one child you fully realize that the child who is hurting at the time receives your full attention. At 2 AM the crying child gets your full attention.

Letter to the Editor
2020 has been an education in Grace. Grace to keep moving through the daily flex of last minute notices and upheaval of assignments. At the school bus yard we had new routes delivering school meals to students and their families as well as daily adjustments to flexible student routes. Our general manager faithfully adhered to the Covid protocol: we were temperature checked, gloved, masked and six feet apart before clocking in or out and certainly before getting on any school bus. Our general manager personally monitored us to ensure our safety and the observance of health precautions. She has stood by us through company transitions, contracts, last minute route and schedule changes, complaints, internal or external disputes. We have watched her monitor traffic with our past superintendent, check buses and host special events for us. All this she has done with impartial judgment and with a strong example of leadership in the responsibility of management. Her door and her mind is always open to us, but so is the understanding that she is our general manager and we are expected to adhere to the policies she conveys to us.

Bruce Dawson continues his pattern of wrong-headedness in his rebuttal (9-18-20) to my recent letter.

First, the terms republic and democracy are not synonymous. Foundationally ignorant Americans have gradually accepted this corruption of terms through constant indoctrination starting with Woodrow Wilson and his Intercollegiate Socialist Society cohorts.

We extend a sincere thank you to Venise McWard, Vicki McMahon, and Tim Carlson for voting to reject the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy request.

Dear Editor,

So Sorry Apologies Ms. Siegfried. You are correct. I should have been more precise. We have a Representative form of government decided by democratic voting even though in America the two terms are usually synonymous.

Yesterday Governor Pritzker warned that unless a federal bailout came along Illinois would have to make major budget cuts. To those of us who have been advocating for fiscal responsibility for years at the statehouse, this comes as no surprise. This is what happens when you pass budgets that are out of balance by billions of dollars.

Letters to the Editor
Special thanks go the members of the Christian County Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) who spent countless hours this summer reviewing thousands of pages of submitted written testimony and documentation, listening to hours and hours of testimony and conducting their own independent research regarding wind turbines. The ZBA board members were both courteous and tireless in accepting endless phone calls from parties on both sides of the issue. T

Letters to the Editor
What does our future hold? Is anyone but me truly afraid that there is a huge potential for missed opportunity if the County Board adopts zoning rules that will preclude wind harvesting here in Christian County? I am watching the process unfold of debating our rules and parameters here locally, and also seeing all the news reports about the recent surge of renewable energy projects, across the rest of Illinois and the country. It all makes me wonder if this windy ship of opportunity will sail away without Christian County on board. And I don't see another one coming, do you?

Dear Editor,

In response to the news article in Thursday, Sept. 3 Breeze Courier about the Christian County Zoning Board of Appeals setback recommendations and shadow flicker for text ammendments regarding wind turbines.

Dear Editor,

If You Can Keep It
While being carried in a stretcher from the Constitutional Convention Ben Franklin made the following statement: When asked by one of his litter bearers, "What have you done? " Franklin's response was; "Given you a Republic.... If you can keep it."
