ITA NOTICE The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (1 Natural Resources Way, Springfield, IL 62702) is seeking an Incidental Take Authorization (ITA) for Bantam Sunfish (Lepomis symmetricus) and Taillight Shiner (Notropis maculatus) in the Buttonland Swamp section of the Cache River State Natural Area, Johnson and Pulaski Counties. Take (e.g., harass, harm, destroy) of Bantam Sunfish and Taillight Shiner may occur as a result of hydraulic dredging in Buttonland Swamp to restore deep-water habitat. Dredging will occur in an area of Buttonland Swamp between Cypress Ditch, approximately 2.2 miles southeast of Perks, and a point approximately 0.8 miles east of Long Reach Road south of Perks. Estimated take of Bantam Sunfish is 6-27 individuals and 3-30 individuals for Taillight Shiner over a three-year project period. Take will be minimized by restricted dredging activities to periods when juvenile fish are not present and to areas which are not the species' most suitable habitat. Dredging will provide a net benefit to both species, and other aquatic species, by enhancing the quality and quantity of deep-water habitat. More details regarding purpose and design of the proposed dredging, status of Bantam Sunfish and Taillight Shiner in Illinois, and efforts to avoid and minimize take are provided in the associated Conservation Plan, which is available at (reference ITA #208). A copy of the Conservation Plan is also provided at the Dongola Public Library (114 NE Front St., Dongola, IL). Public comments may be mailed to: ITA Coordinator, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, 1 Natural Resources Way, Springfield, IL 62702; or emailed to: Public comments must be submitted by July 21, 2021. 6/9, 6/10, 6/11, 6/13, 6/14, 6/15, 6/16, 2021
