Everett E. Turvey, 88, of Taylorville, joined our Lord in Heaven at 3:08 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 8, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Everett W. and Bonita (Whited) Turvey. He married the love of his life, Lillian Helen Taylor, on June 21, 1953 in the Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg. Everett was happiest when he was working, and he retired as a maintenance mechanic/millwright for the Georgia-Pacific paper mill. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Everett loved antique automobiles and vintage aircraft and has owned several antique cars including Model T's over the years. He had vast knowledge of the cars and was a skilled mechanic. He was a member of the Model T Club of America and the Prairie State Model T Club. Everett was also a talented woodworker and enjoyed many home improvement projects with Helen. He loved his family above all and was proud of each of them. Everett was wholly dedicated to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he is fiercely loved by his family in return. He was a great man who could do anything.
Everett is survived by his dedicated wife of 64 years: Helen Turvey of Taylorville; children: Debbie Krotz (Edward) of Taylorville, Gary Turvey (Lynn) of Taylorville, Eric Turvey (Vicki) of Taylorville, and E. Tim Turvey (Betsy) of Shelby Township, Michigan; grandchildren: Chay Anthony, Roxanna Anthony, Peyton Turvey (Jason), and Eli Turvey; great-grandchildren: Zeb, Zane, Zoe, Zennon, and Jayse; several very special nieces and nephews; and four granddogs, as well as special friends Sharon and Rocky. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dolores Mahan and Lois Harrold, and his mother-in-law, Edith Taylor.
A funeral service for Everett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Lynn Wright officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.
