Doris Marie Brenner, born in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma on September 29, 1925, passed away March 25, 2018 in Shawnee, Okla. at the age of 92. Doris was born to Oliver Kelley and Gladys Alma Weld, the second oldest of 5 siblings. Oliver Kelley was a member of the Potawatomi Indian tribe, and that heritage was passed on to Doris and her descendants.
Doris was attending college at Oklahoma A. & M., in Stillwater, Okla., when she met her future husband Carl Brenner, who was stationed there by the Navy, for special electronic training. Carl was born in Reading, Pa. Doris and Carl, both age 18, were married in Washington, D.C. on August 19, 1944. In Washington, Doris got her “top secret” clearance and went to work as a Draftsman working on the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) and “targeting” projects.
Eventually Doris and Carl settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania where they raised their 3 children; James Carl, Carolyn Sue, and Linda Jean. Doris worked as a draftsman/engineer all through the years, retiring as a supervisor from DuPont in Delaware.
Doris taught her children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and all their friends to be brave, respectful and adventurous. She and Carl loved to sail and loved to travel and included relatives and friends on many of their adventures. Doris was also an incredible seamstress.
Doris is survived by son James Brenner (Jill) of Tecumseh, Okla.; daughter Linda Stephenson (Mark) of Taylorville, Ill.; grandchildren: Derek Stephenson (Michele) of Bloomington, Ill.; Drew Stephenson (Jamie) of Taylorville, Ill.; Kristi Brooks, of Wynnewood, Okla.; Elysia Brenner of Amsterdam, and two additional generations of family.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl on February 3, 2018. Doris was also preceded in death by her daughter Sue; Doris’s parents; Carl’s parents; Doris’s brother Kelley; and sisters Clarice, and Elvalou.
