Viveca “Vicki” Lorraine Hughes, 65, of Taylorville, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2018 in her home.
Vicki was born on December 12, 1952 in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, the daughter of Bob and Loretta (Bumpus) Nelson. While living in Kentucky, she met and later married Carl Hughes, Jr. on June 16, 1973, and he preceded her in death on August 17, 1996. Vicki worked as a residential instructor for Outwood Residential Care Facility & Mental Hospital, and she truly enjoyed her work there. She was a member of Dunn Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, and the president of the CB Club in Princeton, Ky. Following the death of her husband, Vicki moved to Taylorville, Illinois where she attended Grace Memorial Church in Edinburg. She was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Club, the Christian County Senior Center, and the Royal Neighbors. In her spare time, Vicki loved to crochet.
Vicki is survived by her four children: Tonia Racine, Christopher Hughes, Samuel (Laura) Hughes, and Seneka D. Hughes, all of Taylorville; her siblings: LaVeta Haddock of Owaneco, Denise Snapp of Taylorville, and Christy (Mark) Callaway of Owaneco; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William J. Nelson, and one brother-in-law, Roy Haddock.
Per Vicki’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest next to her husband in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. A memorial service will be held in Kentucky over Labor Day weekend, with Pastor Eric Nelson officiating.
