Ethel L. Swenny Wagner, 98, of Pana passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 in her home. She was born April 12, 1920 in Oconee to the late John and Katie (Kroenlein) Litz.
Ethel lived most of her life in the Pana area and was a graduate of Rosamond High School. She was a homemaker but had also worked in various dress shops in Pana. Ethel was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana and past member of the Catholic Daughters of America, as well as the Lady Elks, Pana. She enjoyed crocheting and had sewn all her children’s clothing. She also loved flowers and her garden and especially canning foods from her garden, but her happiest place was being in her yard on the lawnmower.
Ethel Litz married Paul L. Swenny on October 5, 1942 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana and he preceded her in death in October 1961. She married John C. Wagner on September 3, 1972 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1989.
Surviving are her children: Shirley Sullivan, Pana, Ill.; Darlene (Randy) Reeter, Blue Mound, Ill.; Arlene (Tom) Froelich, Taylorville, Ill.; step-children: Donna Wagner, John Wagner, Stephen Wagner, Stanley Wagner, Chuck Wagner, Gretchen Evans; granddaughter Paula (Yacine) Anane; four great-grandchildren: Jordan Reeter, Lindsey Reeter, Katie Reeter and Rhett Anane; 23 step-grandchildren and 47 step-great-grandchildren; sister Ann Stupek, Pana, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Paul Reeter; great-grandson Zackary Reeter; step-daughter Pat Miller; son-in-law John L. Sullivan; and brothers: Louie Litz, Carl Litz and Homer Litz.
Funeral mass will be Friday, November 9, 2018 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with rosary at 8:00 p.m. www.mdfh.com
