Bertie Willjo Callaway, 92 of Kincaid, Ill. went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2019.
She was born on April 1, 1927. Bertie left West Virginia in 1945 and came to Kincaid to visit her sister when she met and later married Wayne Callaway Sr. on May 25, 1944 in Taylorville, Ill.
She worked at the ammunition plant in Illiopolis in the 1940’s and after the death of her husband in 1975, she worked as a cook at the Kincaid Grade School for sixteen years. She thought she was retired but was recruited to come cook once again for Biggies restaurant and catering. She was a member of the Methodist women along with being a member of Midland United Methodist Church where she ran the church kitchen for 25 years.
Bertie was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, grandson Wayne (Max) Callaway, parents Frank and Haddie Freeman of West Virginia, brothers Stewart Freeman of W. Va., and Pete Freeman of Fla., sisters: Lucille Hall of Pa. and Virginia Grobosky of W. Va.
She is survived by her children: Wayne (Shirley) Callaway of Taylorville and Kathy (John) Sedlock of Kincaid, grandchildren: Mark Callaway of Owaneco, Jennifer Sedlock of Springfield, Ill., Jessica Harris on McKinney, Texas, Joshua Sedlock of LeRoy, Ill., 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside service for Bertie will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Ill. Pastor Steve Smith will officiate.
Masterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
