John Alexander Moma

John Alexander Moma, 87 of Blue Mound, Ill. passed away at 8:02 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

A service to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Blue Mound United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at the church from 10:00-12:00 on Monday. John will be laid to rest in Hall Cemetery, Blue Mound with military rites provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.

John was born May 15, 1931, in Macon, Illinois, the son of James W. and Lola Mae (Eckhardt) Moma, Sr. He graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1950. John served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. John married Eleanor J. Rosborough on December 19, 1953, in Blue Mound. He was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church all of his life, where he was involved in many activities and served as custodian for many years. John retired from Mueller Company Engineering Records Department after 48 years of service in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post #257, DAV Club, Mueller Retirees Club, Mueller Museum of Decatur and Macon County Farm Bureau. John earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. He and his brother Lloyd were Jr. High referees and were co-founders of the Blue Mounder’s Museum.  

Surviving are his wife: Eleanor J. Moma of Blue Mound, Ill.; daughter: Alicia A. Moma of Blue Mound, Ill.; sons: Paul D. Moma and his wife Rhonda of Taylorville, Ill. and Eric W. Moma and wife Shelley of Blue Mound, Ill.; sister: Erma Mae Noland of Blue Mound, Ill.; granddaughters: Lauren N. Hughes and her husband Jerry of Bolingbrook, Ill., Jessica J. Moma of Fenton, Mo. and Emily F. Moma of Blue Mound, Ill.; grandsons: Travis T. Thomas and Derek A. Thomas both of Naperville, Ill., Alex T. Moma of Decatur, Ill. and Trenten G. Moma of Blue Mound, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Salomeja E. Hughes and Thomas T. Hughes both of Bolingbrook, Ill.; many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: James Moma, Jr. and Lloyd Moma, sisters: Lois Jean Kestner and Mary Lou Willhite, and his infant son Dwight John Moma.
