Samuel John Kerney, formerly of Kincaid, Taylorville, and Palmer, passed away at 7:05 pm EST on May 8, 2019, in Sebring, Florida, at The Good Shepherd Hospice House. He retired to Lake Wales, Florida, where he lived the past few years.
He was born on March 24, 1946, to Samuel J and Vivian Smith Kerney. His father died when he was young and his mother married Elmer Bergschneider. Sam was married on February 12, 1966, to Pamela Sue O’Bryan; they were divorced and he married Patsy Kay Collin of Kincaid on March 28, 2001.
Sam loved to fish and had many fishing buddies over the years, playing cards and singing to country music. He enjoyed watching the St Louis Cardinals and all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Sam is survived by his wife, Patsy. Children: Kerry (Joe) Curvey, Kirk (Jocelyn) Kerney of Carbondale, and Kim (Jim) Blakley. Grandchildren: Cameron Piehler, Christine Curvey, Joseph (Joey) Curvey, Noah Blakley, Grace Blakey, Joel Blakley, and Isaac Blakley. Half Sister, Rose Blackburn. Step Sisters: Martha Ann (Leon) Wernsing and, Mary Jane Harris Adams. His aunt, Cleo Thacker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Kerney and sister, Kathy Rhodes. Step brother, Jim Bergschneider and many aunts and uncles.
Sam’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes sprinkled on Lake Wales where he loved to fish.
A prayer service will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Sunday, May 19, at 9:30 am by Monsignor Lance.
