Janet Clower, 70, of Arvada, Colorado (formerly of Taylorville) passed away Friday morning, December 27, 2019, at 7:39 a.m. at a Colorado hospital from complications of surgery. Her husband and three children were at her side. She was born November 17, 1949, the daughter of James M. Smith and Theresa E. (Durbin) Smith. She lived in Taylorville, attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, and graduation Taylorville High School class of 1967. She worked several years at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Taylorville.
She married Jerry Clower, her high school sweetheart, December 21, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville. They settled in Colorado where she has lived for 40 years. Jan enjoyed camping and boating, sewing, cooking, entertaining family and friends, and traveling. She became president of the Historical Society in Ft. Lupton, Colo., where she and Jerry were active in restoring the fort and planning functions there for the community. She made many friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Jan is survived by her spouse, Jerry Clower, children, son Daniel (wife Lorry), grandson Corvin; daughter Kendra (Scott), grandson Devlyn; son Justin (Jessica), grandsons Liam, and Boston, granddaughter Kaiya; brother James “Bo” Smith (Gail) of Decatur, Ill.,; sisters Tina Eblin of Taylorville, Nancy Smith of Taylorville, nieces Lela Mundhenke or Taylorville, Rachel Smith Treece of Raymond, Ill., and four great-nephews
Funeral services will be held on January 10, 2020, at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, Arvada, Colo. She will be cremated and brought back to Illinois for service and burial later in the spring. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery, Morrisonville, Ill.
