Thomas William Avery, Jr. 62, of Findlay, formerly of Kincaid, passed away 3:11 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Bob Vail officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Church of God in Kincaid. Visitation will also be from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan. Family requests casual attire. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net.
Mr. Avery was born November 29, 1957 in Taylorville, the son of Thomas W.. Avery, Sr. and Ruby Evelyn (Purdue) Avery. Tom worked at Caterpillar in Decatur as a Quality Control Auditor. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved Siberian huskies. Tom married Susan Elaine (Drew) Miller on February 14, 2005 at Taylorville and she survives.
Also surviving are his sons Thomas (Jessica) Avery, III of Kincaid, Justin Avery of Springfield; daughter Caitlyn Avery of Kincaid; stepson Drew (Heather) Miller of Sullivan; stepdaughter Morgan (Jason) Schum of Sullivan; grandchildren Ashton Hagan, Madison Hagan and Braelyn Avery of Kincaid; Emily Miller, Mason Miller, Katie Miller, Stella Schum and Payton Schum of Sullivan; sister Carolyn Avery of Kincaid; sister-in-law Sarah Drew of Mattoon and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy Thomas, brother-in-law Merle Thomas and grandsons Grant Schum and Cole Miller.
