John H. Buerk, 84, of Pana passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in his home.
He was born February 10, 1936 son of the late Harry H. and Margaret W. (Hughes) Buerk. John graduated from Assumption High School. On February 14, 1957 he married Carolyn Carnahan in Pana and she survives.
John managed the Pana Tri-County Fair for several years, worked at CH Metzger for 25 years, as well as HN&W Inc. for 38 years. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing trips to Canada, loved to listen to old country music, playing poker every Friday night, and was a tractor pulling legend. John and Carolyn enjoyed their yearly trips to Branson, Missouri.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn, sons Jerry “JB” (Connie) Buerk, Tower Hill, Ill., Donnie (Sherrie) Buerk, Pana, Ill., and daughter Tracy (Brent) Wilhour, Pana, Ill., grandchildren, Jerald Buerk, Shannon Wade, and Amanda (Chris) Allen, Marley Buerk, Katie Buerk, and Kelvin Olson; step-grandchildren: T.J Grisel and Ty Grisel; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Judy Cox, Tower Hill, Ill. and Lena Jackson, Toledo, Ill.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lu Sims; brothers Donald Buerk in infancy, George Buerk, and Howard Buerk.
A private graveside service for John will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2020 in Mound Cemetery with Pastor Todd Holman officiating. McCracken-Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family. www.mdfh.com
