Rose Marie Cooper, 86, of Granite City, Ill. died on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill.
She was born on July 8, 1934 in Taylorville, Ill. to Wilbert and Rachel nee: Innis Griffin. She worked as a teacher’s aide. In her free time she loved antiques shopping, owls and travel.
The loving mother and grandmother is survived by a son, Edward (Magdalene) Oates of Granite City, Ill.; three grandchildren: Jennifer Lignoul, Jessica Oates and Colin Oates; two great-grandchildren: Jacob Lignoul and Josh Lignoul; three brothers: Michael (Jan) Griffin of Decatur, Ill., Albert Griffin of Cynthiana, Ind. and Wilbert J.R. (Tami) Griffin of Kincaid, Ill. and two sisters: Bonnie (Sally) Mitchelson of Taylorville, Ill. and Wendy Lee (Patrick) Grafton of Tovey, Ill. Rose will be greatly missed by her significant other, Robert Cashon; step-siblings, Donna Sue Griffith, Alice Marie Johnson, Cheryl Gail Miller, Roseanna Mae Enlow and Elizabeth Dryden; special friends: Diane Cashon, Marsha Cashon and Ron Cashon and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rose is preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky Oates; a great-grandchild, Joseph Schoolfield; her former husband, Ralph Cooper; her grandparents who raised her, William and Mamie Griffin; three brothers: William Griffin, Glen Ray Griffin and Gary Griffin and a sister, Margie Hurst.
Professional services entrusted to the care of Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, Ill. The family will hold a memorial service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville at a later date.
