Mary Ellen Chernisky, 90 of Pana, Illinois died Monday, September 14, 2020 at 1:43 p.m. at Heritage Health in Pana.
Mary was born Monday, October 14, 1929 in Taylorville, Illinois, the daughter of Robert L. and Mary Ellen (Jarboe) Spalding. She was raised in Taylorville attending Taylorville High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1948. She married William Steve “Bill” Chernisky on March 8, 1952 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville.
Mary previously worked as a timekeeper at the Taylorville Paper Mill, an assembler at Mallory Timers in Pana, and lastly as a cook at Heritage Manor, Pana, from which she retired in the 1990’s. She was a long-time and devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pan.
Mary Ellen Chernisky is survived by husband: William “Bill” Chernisky of Pana; sons: Bill Chernisky (Cheri) of Greenwood, Indiana; and Mike Chernisky (Debi) of O’Fallon, Missouri; daughter-in-law: Brenda Chernisky of Pana; granddaughters: Angela Bolender (Michael) of Lake Villa, Illinois and Monica Burns (Cris) of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandsons: David Chernisky (Julia) of Pana and Brock Chernisky (Sarah) of Raymore, Missouri and twelve great-grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and a son: Donald “Beef” Chernisky, who died May 12, 2017.
There was a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, September 18, 2020 at ST. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pana. It was officiated by Fr. Rodney A. Schwartz, with musicians Jane McMillen and Jack Erisman performing.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Block three, lot five in Pana Township, Ill.
