Charles Dean Rakers, 90, of Pana passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 in Pana Community Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1930 in Oconee, son of the late Henry and Carrie (Warner) Rakers. Dean married Nancy Eloise Hinton on January 9, 1954 in Oconee. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2018.
Dean served in the U.S. Army and retired from Firestone. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana & Pana American Legion. He enjoyed embroidering pictures, doing yardwork & crafts and making tables. He was very social and enjoyed his breakfast at McDonald’s. He had a sweet personality that made everyone enjoy his company.
Dean is survived by his grandson, Michael Rakers, Pana, Ill.; great-grandson, Austin Fikan and five nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his son, David Michael Rakers and brothers: Don Rakers and Robert Carl Rakers.
A funeral service for Dean will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana with military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
