William Thomas Grant Jr., 81, of Springfield, died at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Regency Care.
Bill was born September 3, 1939, in Taylorville, the son of William Thomas Sr. and Anna Ruth Brooks Grant. He married Pam Ellen Boaden on July 22, 1963, in Taylorville; she preceded him in death on July 27, 2019.
Bill graduated from Taylorville High School in 1957 and attended the University of Illinois. He was the owner and operator of Landmark Automotive Group that started in 1975. He was the founding President of Panther Creek Country Club, a board member of First Bank of Illinois, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Island Bay Yacht Club. He served on the board of directors of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, was a past member of Chrysler-Plymouth National Dealer, past board member of Springfield Boys and Girls Club, and lifetime trustee of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Bill enjoyed golfing, bird hunting, bowling and listening to classical music with Richard Wagner as his favorite. He also enjoyed giving back to his community that supported him and his family throughout the years.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, William T. Grant III; brother, Terry R. Grant; and sister, Linda R. Grant.
Bill is survived by his son, Sean (wife, Taryn) Grant of Springfield; daughter, Gina (husband, Jeff) Tesio of Springfield; grandchildren, Taylor (husband, Cameron) Somerfield, Mason Grant, Aislyn Grant, Aidan Grant, and Brooks Grant of Taylorville.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704 with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity.
