Myrna Marlene (Speagle) Beyers, 83 of Pana passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 4, 1937 in Owaneco, Ill., the daughter of John H. and Margaret A. (Osborn) Speagle. Myrna married Wilfred Joseph “Joe” Beyers on March 2, 1957 in St. Patrick’s Church in Pana and he survives in Pana.
Myrna graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1954. Myrna first worked as a secretary, then as a stay at home mom for all of her children, always a farmer’s wife and later in life sat with the elderly. She attended Owaneco Methodist Church growing up, and then later joined Oconee Sacred Heart Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pana.
Myrna was a very simple woman but enjoyed many things in life. She enjoyed colorful flower and vegetable gardening, horses, cats, butterflies, hummingbirds and peacocks. She loved to have flavorful food including a good cheeseburger, ice cream, pie, Chinese and Cajun food. She especially loved country music, driving to look at fall colors, and trips to the Grand Ole Opry. She found delight in watching the soaps on TV and visiting with special friends throughout her life.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Kent (Dora) Beyers, Earlville, Ill.; Brad Beyers, Fairbury, Ill.; Denise Beyers, Whitestown, Ind.; Lori (Kevin) McDonald, Tucson, Ariz.; Curt Beyers, Hebron, Ohio; Kevin Beyers, Pana; Wes Beyers, Churdan, Iowa; Nicole (Brian) Blodgett, Pana; grandchildren: Chris (Kristin) Beyers, Jenny (Ryan ) Beyers, Brandon (Hayley) Beyers, Bailey (Liz) Beyers, Bryce Beyers, Ali (Dustin) Walradth, Clint (Casey) Culberson, Lindsey (Justin) Argraves, Dr. Andrew (Emily) McDonald, Jared (Lauren) McDonald, Austin (Jennifer) Beyers, Cameron (Allyssa), Jenna Beyers, Kyla Beyers, Adalyn Marlene Blodgett, Reagan Blodgett, Lia Blodgett, Taylor Blodgett and Allen Jr., Ron, Ann and Kelly Butz; great-grandchildren: Gus and Charlotte Beyers, Andie Walradth, Birdie and Beck Culberson, Llewyn Buerke, Blakely and Brooks Argraves, McKinley and Quincy McDonald, Emersyn Beyers, Hannah, Trey and Angel Butz, Logan and Brayden Leppert, and Connor Clark; sisters: Gloria Speagle Shadowens, Trenton, Ga.; Sharon Speagle Cagle, Springfield, Ill. and many nieces and nephews she loved on both sides of the family.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers: LeDon, Larry, Johnny, Curtis, sister Sandra and brother-in-law Jim Tomlinson, and brothers-in-laws Ronnie Cagle and Evangelist Joe Shadowens on her family’s side; mother and father-in-law, Wilfred C. Beyers, Sr. and Marguerite F. (Adams) Beyers, and several loved in-laws.
Funeral Mass for Myrna will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana at 11 a.m. with Rev. Rodney Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oconee. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the church.
