Walter Robert “Bob” Hornbuckle, 90, of Taylorville, Ill., formerly of Morrilton, Ark. passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, surrounded by his family in Taylorville.
Bob was born on June 6, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of William and Helen (DeSpain) Hornbuckle. He married Fern Scroggins on November 29, 1958 in Bee Branch, Ark. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2019.
Bob served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1954 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He graduated from North Dallas High School, as well as Southern Methodist University with a degree in electrical engineering. Bob retired from AT&T in 1991.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Clinton J. Hornbuckle; and brothers: John, William, and James Hornbuckle.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Greg (wife, Patty) Hornbuckle of Taylorville, Ill., and Bruce Hornbuckle of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Cynthia (Jason Handegan) Woods of Taylorville, Ill., Kate Graham of Taylorville, Ill., and Chad (wife, Nena) Hornbuckle of Edwardsville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Cole Woods of Taylorville, Ill., Katie and Erik Hornbuckle of Walnut Creek, Calif., Lucas Hornbuckle of Taylorville, Ill., Michael and Monroe Graham of Taylorville, Ill., and Brynn, Grant and Brock Hornbuckle of Edwardsville, Ill.
A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Old Liberty Cemetery in Cleveland, Ark. The family has entrusted Shafer, Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568 with ceremonies.
