James E. Monroe, 69 of Taylorville passed away at 4:00am on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on July 1, 1951 in Pana, Illinois. Jim was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, barbeques and watching old westerns.
He is survived by his sons: D.J. Monroe of Calhoun, Georgia and Jimmy Monroe of Granite City; stepdaughter: Tara Casner (Jason) of Taylorville; stepson: Kerry Decker of Taylorville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Donald “Red” Merrifield of Pana and Debbie Merrifield Laker of Pana, Nancy Merrifield Baze of Quincy, Dixie Merrifield McGoldrick of Quincy, and Mark Monroe, Kathy Monroe, and John Monroe all of Granite City; former wife: Nancy Holloway of Taylorville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence “Shorty” and Lucille Merrifield and John and Elnora (Niehaus) Monroe; brother: Danny Monroe and sister: Pam Monroe.
A funeral service for Jim will be held at 6p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Visitation will take place from 5 until 6pm on Friday at the funeral home. CDC guidelines will be followed including the use of masks and social distancing.
