Robert “Mike” Pollard, 59 of Pana passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 in his home.
He was born July 15, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. to Robert Dennis and Linda Elaine Pollard. Mike married Beth Bennett in 1982 and had twin daughters. They later divorced. He then married Dede Elmore on May 5, 1994, to which another daughter was born. Dede survives in Pana.
Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1979-1983. He was in the 101st Airborne Division (Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky. where he held rank of Sergeant at time of discharge.
Mike was a mechanic in the Army and continued the trade through the years at many dealerships as an ASE master certified mechanic. He had currently been working as Shop Foreman at Bob Ridings in Taylorville, Ill. Mike was a member of the Pana Eagle’s Club #4109, Pana Moose Lodge #1015, and the Pana Sportsman’s Club.
He never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking “BS” with everyone. Mike was all about his family and was extremely proud of all his children and grandchildren. He loved spoiling each of them, especially his grandchildren. Mike was his family’s “Hero” and “Go to guy” when they needed help or advice. He will truly be missed by his loving family.
Along with his wife, Dede, Mike is also survived by his twin daughters, Christina (Matt) Julius and Crystal (David) Gibson, both of Pana, Ill.; daughter, Chelsea (Jimmy) Mikalik of Assumption, Ill.; grandchildren: Jaidyn, Alexis, Olivia, Avery, Cooper and Aurora; his mother, Linda Pollard of Shelbyville, Ill.; siblings: Ruby Puckett of Shelbyville, Ill., Bill Pollard of Sunnyvale, Calif., Joe Pollard of Georgetown, Ill. and Kim Pollard of Shelbyville, Ill.
He was preceded by his father, Robert Pollard; grandparents; and his best friend, Eric Bennett.
Funeral services for Mike will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with Pastor Leon Goff officiating. Burial will be in Twin Pines Cemetery, Pana, with military rites conducted by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with Eagle’s rites at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
