Willie Mener Walker, 86 of Taylorville, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Willie was born on October 19, 1934 to William and Estella (Brown) Smith in Macon, Mississippi. She married Richard Walker in their hometown on August 7, 1950, and together they moved to Taylorville, Illinois and enjoyed over 70 years of marriage.
Willie received Christ into her heart at a young age. She was a member of the Allen Chapel AME Church in Taylorville, where she sang in the choir, served on the Missions Committee, and volunteered her time as a Church Mother. She loved to host holidays and cook or barbecue for her family. Willie was a great mother and a wonderful grandmother, and she will be dearly missed.
Along with her husband Richard, Willie is survived by their children: Maxine Johnson of Decatur, Barbara Ann (Dwight) Ross of Decatur, Richard Walker, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Maurice (Terri) Walker of Taylorville, Glenn (Annie) Walker of Fresno, Calif., and Jacque Bean of Decatur; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; her favorite cousin, Rosemary Roby, in addition to a host of other cousins, nieces, and nephews; and three sisters.
Willie was preceded in death by her grandmother who raised her: Lylia Roby; her parents; her Uncle Jimmy Roby; and two special sons-in-law: Butch Bean and Johnny Johnson.
A service for Mrs. Walker will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville, with Rev. Tiney Walker officiation. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Cremation will follow.
