Twelve days: That is how close Illinois high school students came to their first official day of practice for the 2020 fall seasons. Instead, it will be only golf and cross country that will enjoy a traditional start to the new season.
Following an IHSA decision Wednesday, football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball have been moved to the spring. The IHSA made dozens of other amendments to various other sports as well, but none that are applicable to Christian County athletes.
Many saw the IHSA decision coming after Governor JB Pritzker held a noon press conference yesterday outlining further restrictions for youth and adult recreational sports, including those governed by the IHSA. That announcement from the governor, though, was supposed to coincide with the IHSA’s announcement, according to IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. Thursday, July 30, 2020

Taylorville Athletic Director Jason Hadley has had quite the first year. After being hired in January to take the place of retiring AD Paul Held, Hadley missed out on more than 100 hours of training due to COVID-19, and has had more curveballs thrown his way since.
Trying to figure out summer schedules and dealing with the ever changing guidelines that the IHSA sends out has become normal for Hadley now.
“It’s been tough,” said Hadley about the changes to Phase 4 of the IHSA’s Return to Play guidelines. “We’ve had to cancel some scrimmages. The basketball summer league was canceled, volleyball was going to go to a tournament at Millikin and that’s been canceled, football won’t have any 7-on-7’s; it’s just been a strange summer so far. The outdoor sports like football and cross country and soccer have it a little easier being that they’re outside, but they still have to keep their distance and can’t have any contact,” said Hadley. After the IHSA announced that their Return to Play Guidelines went into effect on Saturday, June 6, athletes around Illinois were able to get some hope after COVID-19 dashed many of their spring seasons.
That hope began for many on Wednesday as more than 100 athletes, split across two segments, were able to get back to activity as a part of Taylorville sports. Eight coaches across six different sports and activities oversaw groups of 10 or fewer student-athletes on Wednesday morning.
