Bulldogs blow past JV Tornadoes

Many of the JV Tornadoes were on the sideline Friday to watch the varsity Tornadoes take down Mahomet-Seymour. Monday night, the JV squad got their chance, but the Bulldogs were too strong and outmatched the Tornadoes 44-0.

Monday night mixed bowling results
The Olde Bowl hosted the Monday night mixed league on Monday. After all teams had finished last night, CTI-Fiber finished in first, Team 8 ended tied for second with Art-Rageous, David R Fines, and Team Whatever, Louis Marsch ended in sixth, HSSB finished in seventh, and The 4-Some finished in eighth.

The JFL Tornadoes were 3-1 over the weekend as fifth, sixth, and seventh grade were victorious on Saturday. The fifth grade won 35-12, sixth grade won 8-6, seventh grade won 14-0, and the eighth grade lost 28-0.

THS baseball holding alumni game Saturday
The Taylorville baseball team will hold an alumni game in Taylorville on Saturday, August 11 at 5:30 p.m. This will now be the second year in a row that the Tornadoes are hosting an alumni game. Last  year’s game featured about 30 players from as far back as the 1970’s and was the first alumni game held under head coach Brian Sample who said he wanted to build the tradition.

Taylorville High School dance team shines at UDA Camp
The THS dance team was at the University of Illinois July 27 through July 30 for the UDA Dance Camp. The team brought home a Superior Champion Trophy, Drill Down Queen honors, a coaches award, a blue ribbon for their home routine, 34 different blue ribbons for dances learned and performed at the camp, and both the regular and super spirit stick.

Stock car racing action thrills fairgoers Wednesday
“In the four years I’ve been associated with racing at the Christian County Fair, this was the best racing I’ve seen,” said Track Enterprises’ Adam Mackey of Wednesday night’s stock car racing event at the Christian County Fair track. “The racing was great, very clean, and the track was really good.”

Driver autograph session added to Wednesday fair races
This year’s Christian County Fair stock car race will have a new addition, a prerace autograph meet-and-greet behind the main grandstands.  It’s all part of the Larry’s Service Center NAPA Tripleheader of racing this coming Wednesday night in Taylorville, IL.  The 5:30 autograph session precedes the on track action which will begin with hotlaps at 6:20 and racing at 7:00.

TJHS Baseball tryouts next week
The junior high Taylorville baseball team will begin tryouts on Monday, July 30 from 5:30-7 p.m. Tryouts will run until August 3 and is for seventh and eighth graders only.

7-on-7's from Saturday; THS, Pana, and A&M
Both Taylorville and Pana competed in the Maroa-Forsyth seven-on-seven round robin tournament on Saturday. The Tornadoes went 3-2 on the day as they defeated Maroa’s JV team, Pana, and Shelbyville. Pana was 2-3 and also defeated Maroa’s JV and Shelbyville.

Taylorville Swim Team finishes season strong
The Taylorville Swim Team finished its summer season on Sunday, July 15 at Eisenhower pool in Springfield at the Conference meet. The winter swim season will begin in late August and that is when the swimmer’s will begin traveling more.

Tornadoes and Trojans square off in 7-on-7 matchup
The Tornadoes took the short trip up to Maroa-Forsyth to face off against the Trojans last night in their first seven-on-seven contest. It was the Trojans who would win 31-13, but Taylorville Head Coach Jeb Odam says the results are secondary.

Taylorville Swim Team wins big over Panther Creek
The Taylorville Swim Team held its final home meet on Monday as they swam against the Panther Creek Country Club team. Taylorville finished the day with 431 points, topping Panther Creek’s 285 points and defeating Panther Creek once again for the season.

The Taylorville Tornadoes cross country team will be hosting its annual conditioning camp. The camp will run from Monday through Friday for two weeks starting on July 9 and running through Friday, July 20.
