Six of the eight Pana golfers on the boys team return from a year ago. On the other hand, the girls team lost seven seniors last season. The dynamic of the program, then, could shift as the boys look to continue to climb into contention while the girls try to cling to their position near the top of the conference.

Soccer Panthers hope 13 is good omen
Second year head coach Robert Evaul hopes the convergence of the number 13 is going to be good luck for his 2019 Pana High School boys soccer team.

“This is my 13th year teaching, my 13th year being involved in with Pana soccer teams, boys and girls, and on the first day of practice, I had 13 people come out,” he said. “So, maybe this will be good luck for us.”

Pana Panthers
Save for the energetic kid bounding up and down the sidelines after Pana football games, I didn’t know Evan Higgins. Just those fleeting glimpses, though, were enough to know that he was loved by everyone around him and that he brought love and happiness to his family.

As we move into a new season, it is with a heavy heart that Evan is no longer with us. I’ve struggled to watch the yearning heartache of my friend, Trevor Higgins as he struggles through what must be an unbearable hell. My thoughts, too, are with his wife, Jeri Ann, who I only know in passing.

Silver and Gold: Pana track ties for second at State
Track is an interesting sport. It is one of the few sports where times and finishes are intrinsically linked with performance.

Yes, it’s fun trivia to know what a baseball or softball pitcher’s ERA (earned run average) is or what a quarterback’s completion percentage is, but those numbers don’t necessarily equate to overall performance.
