Central A&M hosts Pana in seven-on-seven

Instead of taking on their own teammates all summer, Central A&M and Pana squared off against each other in 7-on-7 action on Wednesday night. “It’s nice to get out here and get some reps in on both offense and defense,” said A&M head coach Brent Weakly. “We have been together for a while, but we also had basketball over the summer so it’s nice to focus on footbal.”

Renovations underway at Pana's Brummett Field, Schramm Track
Only slightly behind schedule, renovations at Brummett Field and Carol Schramm Track are progressing nicely. Jeff Stauder, the school district’s supervisor of buildings and grounds, reports the final layer of asphalt was laid for the track on Monday. He said it will take 20 days to cure before the actual running surface, which will be polyurethane instead of rubber, will then be put down.

Track is an interesting sport. It is one of the few sports where times and finishes are intrinsically linked with performance.

Yes, it’s fun trivia to know what a baseball or softball pitcher’s ERA (earned run average) is or what a quarterback’s completion percentage is, but those numbers don’t necessarily equate to overall performance.

The Pana boys track team and the Central A&M boys track team traveled to Sullivan to compete for a chance at state. The Raiders finished tied for 14 in the meet with a team score of two and Pana won the meet with an 87 team score.

Taylorville, Pana to renew football rivalry Saturday
Back in the days of the Mid-State conference, Taylorville and Pana were fierce rivals on the gridiron. The Tornadoes hold the all-time series advantage with a record of 40-31-8, but Pana ruled the roost in the final years of the rivalry as they rattled off seven straight wins from 1986 through the final game in 1992.

The Pana Panther softball team had its season ended last night at the hands of Teutopolis. The Wooden shoes scored a run in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth to advance them to the Regional title game with a final score of 5-0.

Pana advances two relay's, three individuals to state
ASSUMPTION — The Central A&M and Pana girls track teams competed in the Central A&M girls track sectional on Thursday. Although the temperature was down and the wind and rain was off-and-on throughout the meet, the Panthers advanced their 4x200 meter relay team, the 4x100 meter relay team, a shot-putter, a 100 meter dash runner, and a 400 meter dash runner to the state meet next week in Charleston.
