Twelve days: That is how close Illinois high school students came to their first official day of practice for the 2020 fall seasons. Instead, it will be only golf and cross country that will enjoy a traditional start to the new season.
Following an IHSA decision Wednesday, football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball have been moved to the spring. The IHSA made dozens of other amendments to various other sports as well, but none that are applicable to Christian County athletes.
Many saw the IHSA decision coming after Governor JB Pritzker held a noon press conference yesterday outlining further restrictions for youth and adult recreational sports, including those governed by the IHSA. That announcement from the governor, though, was supposed to coincide with the IHSA’s announcement, according to IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. Thursday, July 30, 2020
CHRISTIAN COUNTY — The Taylorville JFL association had to make a difficult decision over the past few days following the announcement of the changes to the IHSA Phase 4 guidelines. The Taylorville JFL and the Junior Mid-State conference made the decision to suspend registration and practice by a month. Saturday, July 11, 2020
As school districts around the state begin to approve IHSA’s Phase 4 Return to Play Guidelines, the IHSA has remained optimistic that there will be fall sports in the 2020-2021 school year. It’s not exactly football practice as in days of old, but it is practice. Under guidelines established by the Illinois High school Association (IHSA), practice for sports got underway on Monday.
“Really excited to be back, but this just isn’t the way we want it to be,” Pana Head Football Coach Trevor Higgins said. “But, we’re back to work and all of the kids are happy to be back. This is a time we are building relationships and that’s what its about. I haven’t heard one negative comment from anyone about what we are doing.”
Head Basketball Coach Adam Metzger is also helping out. On Tuesday, he was taking temperatures and asking health questions of each athlete as it related to COVID-19. Wednesday, June 17, 2020

PANA — Three Pana Panther girls basketball players have committed to continueing their basketball career at the next level. Sadie Keller and Rhylee Freeman are heading to Blackburn College in Carlinville while Sway Denton will be going to Greenville University in Greenville. Friday, May 29, 2020
