Edinburg baseball ready for a building year
John Bryan stepped up after the coach from last year had to step down due to deployment. Coaching for Mr. Bryan is something he’s used to, as he’s been an assistant football coach for approximately nine years.

Edinburg softball looking to be competitive this season
Stephan Royer is looking forward to his first full year as head coach of the Edinburg Softball Team. Technically, it’s his second year, however COVID hit and the season was never completed last year. He was the Jr. High coach for two years, and assistant at the high school level, before accepting the head coaching spot last year.

The roster includes four seniors, five juniors, one sophomore and two freshman and is led by returning All-Conference player Rylie Burney and Honorable Mention Julianna Orr. In addition, there are five girls who actively participate in travel ball.

Edinburg falls to Vipers
Edinburg hit the road and took the long trip to Waverly on Monday night to face off against the South County Vipers. The Wildcats fell in two sets 25-12 and 25-23.

Julianna Orr had 15 kills, 14 digs, and one block; Emily Peacock had four kills, 14 digs, two blocks, and one ace; Myla Bigelow had one ace; Jordyn Alcala had 14 assists.

NOKOMIS — The Edinburg Wildcats traveled to Nokomis on Wednesday night, one day removed from their loss to Morrisonville on Tuesday. After that game, Wildcat head coach Tami Tapscott talked about her team’s ability to bounce back and respond from that game.

The Edinburg Wildcat volleyball team opened their season at home on Tuesday night and opened the game with a victory in straight sets as they defeated Mt. Olive 25-19 and 25-16.

Mt. Olive outlasts Edinburg on senior night
The Edinburg Wildcats celebrated their two basketball seniors and their two cheerleading seniors on Tuesday night with Robert Younker and Hayden Prince recognized for basketball and Emily Peacock and Halie McEntire recognized for cheerleading.

Their celebration was cut short, though, as Mt. Olive used a big second half to come away with a 52-44 victory over Edinburg.

Lutheran defense stifles Wildcat offense
Every time the Edinburg Wildcats would get on a small run, the Lutheran defense forced a turnover or would take off on a run of their own, getting the ball inside the lane and scoring. The momentum never fully stayed with the Wildcats in their contest on Tuesday night as they fell 62-28 at home.

Wildcats fall in conference matchup with South County
Neither the Wildcats nor the Vipers were really able to gain control over the opening 5 minutes of their contest on Tuesday night in Waverly. The tide changed after the mask timeout of the first quarter, as the Vipers went on to outscore the Wildcats 16-0 from there through the second quarter, en route to a 49-13 victory on the evening.

A Mitchell Bloome three in the early part of the first quarter and a runner in the lane by Isaiah Fisher was all of the scoring that the Wildcats were able to get in the first half as they fell behind 24-5 after the first half.
