A tale of two sets: Mohawk volleyball falls to Lincolnwood

Only 9.5 miles separates Morrisonville and Raymond along Route 48, so naturally it’s a rivalry when the two teams meat.

Thursday’s volleyball matchup didn’t disappoint in that regard.

Mohawks control Rams; win in straight sets 25-14, 25-17
In basketball and football, some teams have been considered second half teams; teams where they always seem to come out of the locker room with a new passion and go on a tear to win the game.

That could’ve easily described the Morrisonville Mohawks on the volleyball court on Tuesday nigh. The Mohawks dominated the floor in the second half of both sets Tuesday night as they defeated Ramsey 25-14 and 25-17.

Mohawks sweep Mulberry Grove
The Morrisonville Mohawks hosted their second game of the season on Thursday night when they faced off against Mulberry Grove. The Mohawks swept the night’s sets as they won 25-12 and 25-18.

Hailee Belscher led the Mohawks in aces, kills, and service points with four, six, and 12 respectively while she also tied for the block lead with Ali Harris as they had two each. Tessa Funderburk finished with seven assists for the Mohawks and Mackenzie harmon had four digs to lead the team.

A&M Raiders top Mohawks in three-set comeback
It was a tough first night game for both the Central A&M Raiders and the Morrisonville Mohawks. Both teams gave the other a lot of points, whether it be on service errors or hitting errors, but both started to settle in during the second set and each played their game.

After the Mohawks took set one 25-1, the Raiders ran off the final two sets as they were victorious 25-25 and 25-20 to win the match.

Lady Mohawk volleyball eying .500 season
“We were sub .500 a year ago, but we improved from the year before that. We would like to continue to build on the momentum and get above .500, and I think we can get there. I have challenged this group to do that,” Morrisonville Volleyball Coach Ann Little said of the upcoming season.
