The village of Morrisonville may just be home to baseball’s next rising star. In an era where specialization is growing more common on the diamond, true five-tool players are hard to come by these days. Ten-year-old Cody Ganther from Morrisonville, though, his tool box seems to be stocked and loaded for bear.
In the field, Cody plays first base, but he can also hold down the pitching mound with some pretty electric stuff, especially for his age. “I got two fast balls, a cutter, a slider, and a curve,” he says, though his coaches won’t let him snap his wrist on the curve ball at his age. He’s also got some power at the plate out of his left-handed bat. “I got my first grand slam this year,” he beamed with pride. “I got one high and inside, and i just turned on it. It was my first time using a 30-inch bat too. It almost curved foul, but then it landed fair. My shirt was all the way untucked, I had my hands up, and I was just running around the bases. Then, whenever I hit home, they are all huddling, jumping on me.” Saturday, October 26, 2019
