Raider defense shines in season opener

Starting 1-0 always sets a nice tone for the season; picking up where the team left off a year ago is even better.

Three Raider volleyball players named all-conference
Three Central A&M volleyball players were named to the CIC all-conference team for volleyball this season. Junior setter Allie Dunn was named to the second-team, and so also was senior libero Channing Collins; junior middle hitter Channing Reed was given an honorable mention.

Raiders' round four potential matchups
November football is back at Central A&M for the first time since 2001. Advancing to the semifinals won’t be an easy task, but as usual, we can take a look at what may come for the Raiders. In the other quarterfinal matchup in the 1A South bracket, Camp Point (Central) and Concord (Triopia) kickoff at 1:00 on Saturday.

Central A&M looking to rebuild tradition, return to semifinals
For the first time since 2001, which was head coach Brent Weakly’s senior year, November quarterfinal football has returned to Moweaqua this year. The Raiders will face off against the Argenta-Oreana Bombers on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 in the afternoon.

After A&M upset 1A fourth-seed Bridgeport 48-40 and Albion toppled the fifth-seeded Madison, 7-0, the number-12 and the number-13 seeds will now face off against each other on Saturday in Albion.

CAM pulls off upset, beats No. 10 Red Hill
Facing fourth down and four yards to go with 1:54 left on the clock, head coach Brent Weakley sent out the punt team on the field. Giving the ball back to Red Hill with 1:45 left in the game to the prolific offense was dangerous, but a Gannon Gaither pass was intercepted by Cord Fenton on the A&M sideline which iced the game for the Raiders.

The Central A&M Raiders faced off against Cerro Gordo on Tuesday night in the regional semifinals. The Broncos were able to get the better of the Raiders and won 25-23 and 25-15.

Paradee 12th nationally in receiving yards
After spending a number of weeks in the top-five of the nation’s best receivers, Jacob Paradee finished the year number 12 on the Max Preps receiving yards list with 1,282 yards. Paradee averaged 142.2 yards per game to reach the milestone and had one of the fewest reception numbers with 66.

Raiders on to the first round
The near two-and-a-half hour trip southeast to Bridgeport, Illinois to face off against Red Hill is going to seem daunting for the Central A&M Raiders this coming Saturday. Red Hill, the number-four seed in the South bracket of the IHSA 1A playoffs, comes into this Saturday’s contest with an 8-1 record; their only loss came in a week-four matchup against the number-two seed in the South bracket of the IHSA 4A playoffs, a 9-0 Paris team.

Both the Central A&M boys and girls teams advanced from the Carlinville regional on Saturday for the first time in over 12 years. Pana was also in attendance at the regional, finishing 11th in the boys race and ninth in the girls race; the Panther’s season has come to a close as no one advanced to the next round.

Warrensburg bests A&M in three sets
Braelynn Barnes, Channing Collins, Rylee Dixon, and Allie Dunn were all honored for the Raiders on Thursday night as they took on the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals on their senior night. The Raiders pushed the Cardinals to three sets, but ultimately lost with scores of 22-25, 27-25, and 15-25.

Edinburg 2nd at Mohawk Tournament
Edinburg, Morrisonville, and the Taylorville JV squad all competed over the past weekend in the Mohawk volleyball tournament. Edinburg was 2-0 going into Saturday and Morrisonville was 1-2, Taylorville’s JV was 2-0 after Friday’s games going into Saturday as well.

Central A&M football blanks Shelbyville on Homecoming
“Coach told us that the playoffs start today. We basically need to win out from here to make the playoffs,” said junior wide receiver Jacob Paradee.

Not only were the Raiders able to win their homecoming game and get back to .500, but they were able to do so in dominating fashion winning 41-0.

MOWEAQUA — Scoring no less than 50 in each of their previous three games, the Bulldogs of St. Teresa came into Moweaqua against a stout Central A&M defense. Once again, though, the streak for St. Teresa continued as they scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to win 63-27.

The Central A&M Raider volleball team found themselves in a hole Monday night as they faced off against the Pawnee Indians. The Raiders had dropped the first set 25-19, but found a way to flip the script on the Indians and power back to win the second set 25-16. It came down to a decisive third set, one that the Raiders would go on to win 25-21.
