The Central A&M volleyball team spent a majority of its season without a key piece to its core, and it wasn’t a player on the court.

Head coach Vanessa Rork missed all but the first few games of her teams run a year ago, as she gave birth to twins in October of last year. This left assistant coach Lesley Graven in charge of the Raiders.

Aberle excited to helm Central A&M XC
Although the cross country coach this season will be new for Central A&M, the transition period won’t be as difficult as one might think. ”Coach Dooley and I talked late last Spring, which really helped with the transition between the two of us. I got some of the workout sheets and records that she had from last year, which has only helped the transition,” said new head coach Tim Aberle.

Experienced seniors ready to lead A&M
While Central A&M graduated several of their running backs, and lost an NCAA Division I lineman, the Raiders are blessed this season with a large group of seniors who got to grow together on the football field, and the basketball court.

For the Raiders, their summer saw success as they won the Maroa-Forsyth 7-on-7 tournament, as well as played tough with Pana and some of the other teams in the area.

A&M takes 7-on-7 crown, Panthers get two wins
The Central A&M Raiders and Pana Panthers were once again next to each other in 7-on-7 action. This time, instead of facing off against each other one-on-one, they each competed in a round-robin tournament in Maroa.

Pana won two games with scores of 28-6 and 44-8 while Central A&M won 26-9, 30-22, and also the championship game over Clifton Central.

Central A&M hosts Pana in seven-on-seven
Instead of taking on their own teammates all summer, Central A&M and Pana squared off against each other in 7-on-7 action on Wednesday night. “It’s nice to get out here and get some reps in on both offense and defense,” said A&M head coach Brent Weakly. “We have been together for a while, but we also had basketball over the summer so it’s nice to focus on footbal.”
