Despite a constant barrage of rain storms, there has actually been some decent golfing weather in recent days. And, since May 1, with the governor’s updated and slightly relaxed stay-at-home policy, golfers have been able to hit the links once again. Course protocols certainly look a little different than they did last fall though.

It was a foregone conclusion after Governor Pritzker canceled all in-person learning for Illinois schools last week, but the IHSA officially canceled all spring sports Tuesday afternoon. The IHSA Board of Directors met for their April meeting via a video conference call on Tuesday where the decision was announced formally.
“We support the decision by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education, and given the logistics, we simply felt we could not conduct state tournaments that meet the expectations of our member schools this spring, ” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “As disappointing as it may be for students, it is the right decision for their health and safety, as well as for the health and safety of the general public, as we cope with this unprecedented pandemic..” Wednesday, April 22, 2020
CHRISTIAN COUNTY — The Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) has made the very difficult decision to cancel all remaining state series activities. A telephone conference call was held on Friday, April 3, with the IESA Board of Directors at which time the final decision was made. To that end, the bowling state series, the scholastic bowl state series, all remaining music contests, and the track and field state series have been cancelled. They will not be rescheduled. CHRISTIAN COUNTY — Unfortunately, there are no spring sports taking place at this time, but the winter seasons were able to conclude for area athletes and their respective conferences announced their All-Conference selections. There were three MSM boy basketball player nominees, one girl MSM nominee, one boy Apollo conference player, one Apollo girl basketball player, two girl SCC basketball players, and three boy SCC basketball players who made all-conference this season. March 12 will forever live in the minds of the sports world as nearly every professional and collegiate sport was suspended for the foreseeable future amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. Two local athletes who continued their sports careers into college have been impacted by the outbreak are Jared Beyers and Cody Klein.
Beyers committed to run track at Greenville college and Cody Klein played football and was running track this season at Illinois College. Both athletes have had implications on their outdoor track seasons, transitioning from indoor to their outdoor seasons. Monday, March 16, 2020
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced on March 12, 2020 that it will significantly limit attendance at the remaining games in the 2020 IHSA Boys Basketball State Series, as well as at other IHSA events, to preemptively reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. The IESA State Wrestling tournament will be cancelled this year, as it was to be held at Northern Illinois University. The tournament was set for Friday and Saturday, but coaches and schools entering the State series were informed Thursday morning that the tournament wasn’t going to happen. TAYLORVILLE — Lily Osborn age 10, of Taylorville, competed in the District Swim Championship this past weekend in Springfield and earned seven podium finishes. Her efforts qualify her for the State Swimming Meet on March 13-15, 2020 in St. John, Indiana. Friday, March 6, 2020
