Lancers fall to Tri-City
BUFFALO — The Lincolnwood Lancers saw their winning streak come to an end on Friday as they fell to Tri-City in overtime. Both teams ended the fourth quarter tied at 36, and the Tornadoes came out on top with a 52-45 victory.

The Lancers continued to play well on Tuesday night as they hosted Springfield Lutheran. The Lancers held the lead from after the first quarter and stayed on top as they were victorious 43-40.

YMCA Predators compete in Snowball Classic
The Christian County YMCA Predators competed 600 other swindividual medleymers from 20 teams in the annual Snowball Classic Swindividual medley Meet. This three-day meet was held at the Kerasota’s YMCA in Springfield, IL.

The following members made state tindividual medleyes: Wyatte Guhlstorf, Kade Guhlstorf, Jonas Cunningham, Adelyn Durbin, and Ella Lundin.

Mohawk Classic: Day Two recap
The Edinburg Wildcats and Lincolnwood Lancers continued the Mohawk Classic, but not in Morrisonville as night two saw the tournament moved to Edinburg and Carlinville this year.

The Wildcats faced off against Nokomis and fell 56-26 while the Lancers took on the Cavies and were victorious 57-46.

VisionWay splits with Springfield Trinity Lutheran
VisionWay 6th grade boys suffered their first loss of the season to Springfield Trinity Lutheran by a final of 27-21. The team is now 10-1 on the season.  Isaac Corso led all scorers with 11 points and Hudson DeMichael added seven points and six rebounds. Ian Skelton grabbed another nine rebounds in the contest.

Bowling league results
The Illini Travel bowling league was in action on Sunday in Decatur. Broken Wrench Garage finished the night in first, SLB and Son’s, Crappie Slayers, and Town Pump Bowl tied for second, Solid 9 Pro Shop and Olde Bowl tied for fifth, Dial Mowing was seventh, and Tulleys Family Barber Shop was eighth.

Lincolnwood controls clock in 48-16 win over Edinburg
The Lincolnwood Lancers and Edinburg Wildcats opened their portion of the Mohawk Classic on Monday night as they faced off against one another in Morrisonville. “We knew after the first time we faced Edinburg, we had to control the clock a little bit more, and I thought that we were very successful in that,” said Lincolnwood head coach Matt Millburg. The Lancers were victorious over Edinburg on Monday night with a final score of 48-16.

The St. Mary sixth grade girls basketball team won the Hillsboro Hoopfest over the weekend. The girls dropped their first two games of the tournament, but were victorious in their next four to win the title.

NOKOMIS — Raymond Lincolnwood traveled to Nokomis to take on the Redskins in what will now be a yearly matchup as Nokomis will be joining the MSM conference next season. The Lancers started strong and finished stronger en route to a 50-44 victory.

VisionWay sweeps D-W
 TAYLORVILLE — The VCS boys 7th grade team moved to 7-2 Tuesday after defeating Deland-Weldon, 36-26. Kade Beckmier led all scorers with 20 points, going 4-6 from beyond the three-point arc. He also led the team with eight rebounds and five steals. Owen Younker added nine points and Finn Niemann five. Finn and Jude Niemann also helped out with five and four rebounds respectively.

TAYLORVILLE — The seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams were once again in action on Thursday, as they hosted Teutopolis. Both teams picked up wins as the seventh graders were victorious 25-9 and 25-13 while the eighth grade won 25-22 and 25-23.

FBCA hangs on to edge Edinburg 46-44
Bob Huggins at West Virginia, John Beilein at Michigan. Scott Drew at Baylor: Those three coaches were known for throwing a 1-3-1 defense at their opponents at the collegiate level. FBCA head coach Adam Jeffrey did his best to imitate the successes of those coaches when he  threw a 1-3-1 at the Edinburg Wildcats Tuesday night; it was Edinburg’s first experience with the defensive look, and it helped the Falcons earn a two-point win in the contest.

WAVERLY — Both the Lincolnwood Lancers and the Edinburg Wildcats played on Thursday night to open the Waverly tournament. The Lancers took on New Berlin and fell 50-35 while the Wildcats faced off against the host South County and fell 69-34.

Vipers beat Lincolnwood
The Lincolnwood Lancers traveled down to Franklin to take on the South County Vipers on Friday night. It was a 12-6 third quarter that was ultimately the difference maker in the contest as Lincolnwood fell 41-39.

Jhadyn Walker, Sam Herman, and Evan hopper each knocked in a field-goal in the first quarter, but the Lancers trailed 11-6 after the first. Five different Lancers scored in the second quarter as part of an 11-6 score and both teams were tied at 17 going into the locker room.

Herman's big day leads Lancers past Litchfield
On Saturday, the Lincolnwood Lancers faced off against Litchfield in the second annual WSMI Shootout.

Although the Lancer offense has changed this season, they were back to their old form on Saturday, feeding their big man inside and allowing him to go to work. Sam Herman was the beneficiary of his size as he finished with 18 points to help Lincolnwood take the 44-31 victory.

The Lancers traveled to Hillsboro on Tuesday night for a matchup with the Hilltoppers. The Lancers used a 25-point fourth quarter to come away with the 56-51 win over Hillsboro on Tuesday night.

The Christian County youth volleyball program wrapped up its third season of league play. Over 180 kids from the area played in the league this year and opened up to the Meridian school district and donated the admissions to various community organizations this year.

The Christian County Predator swim team traveled to Monmouth on Saturday to compete in the Splash Bash Waterbug Invite. The results were as follows:

Haley Bliler (11-12) was 18 in the 50 yard freestyle, 11 in the 100 yard freestyle and the 50 yard breaststroke, and was 10 in the 50 yard backstroke.

Lincolnwood downs Mt. Olive 47-24
The Lincolnwood Lancers hit the road again on Friday night after opening the season at the New Berlin tournament. This time, they traveled to Mt. Olive to face off against the Wildcats. A stifling defensive performance from the Lancers kept Mt. Olive to 18 points from the floor, and although they added six from the free-throw line, the Lancers were victorious 47-24.

The Lincolnwood Lancers wrapped up the New Berlin tournament on Saturday as they took on MSM foe South County.

The third quarter was the difference maker, but a strong attempt at a comeback in the fourth left the Lancers down by four as the buzzer sounded, and they fell 41-37.

LHS boys balancing basketball with off-court struggles
 “You go to school and you play throughout your younger years and then you become a coach, but there’s no playbook for this. Every instance that we’ve come across and tragedy, we have to handle with adversity. We talk about adversity in a basketball stance, and we have to translate that, now, into real life. We have very loyal and great kids in our school districts…and it makes it easier with the way that they’ve been raised and how they react to the situations,” said head coach Matt Millburg.
